- A man was assaulted at a petrol station, allegedly for wearing an EFF cap
- He says a man approached his vehicle and then punched him
- Allegedly, the attacker also used racial slurs
A 38-year-old man has been attacked, allegedly for wearing an EFF cap.
The assault occurred at a petrol station in Horizon Park, Roodeport, on the West Rand.
A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
The man who was assaulted, Ron Rambebu, was sitting in his car when a man approached him and punched him multiple times in the face through the car window. Rambebu claims that the man also called him the k-word while doing so.
This is supported by the video itself, which shows the attackers approach the vehicle and then strike Rambebu. Rambebu does not appear to fight back.
Rambebu then got out of the car and chased his assailant with a spanner, but could not catch him, according to Sowetan Live. The man who assaulted them got into a white Ford Mustang and fled the scene.
Rambebu says he has been traumatised by the attack, which left him with a bloody wound above his eye. He also said that he suspected his attackers were either drunk or on drugs.
A spokesperson for the police say they have opened an investigation into the assault but that no arrests have yet been made, Briefly.co.za has gathered.
