AFCON 2019: Egypt expels Amr Warda from tournament ahead of DR Congo clash

African Cup of Nations hosts Egypt has expelled star forward Amr Warda from the team squad ahead of their second Group A fixture.

Warda's expulsion was confirmed in a statement by Egypt Football Federation on Wednesday, June 26.

"The head of the Egyptian Football Federation, Hani Abu Reda, has decided to dismiss Amr Warda from the team's camp after consulting with the team's technical and administrative staff," Egypt FA said.

According to reports, the winger was sent home by the team’s officials due to his "misbehaviour and immoral actions."

"Social media conversations between Warda and many women were released after Egypt's game against Zimbabwe," BBC Arabic reporter Mohamed Qoutb was quoted saying.

Warda featured in the Pharaohs' competition group opener against Zimbabwe which ended in a 1-0 victory for the hosts.

The 25-year-old who plays for Greek club PAOK played the last 20 minutes of the match after coming on a as substitute for Abdallah El Said.

The dismissal comes ahead of the national team’s second group against DR Congo.
