South Africans have called out the African National Congress (ANC) over a claim that a local municipality destroyed rural homes.
On Thursday, a social media user, who has been identified by his Twitter handle @ZizmanZizipho, shared a heartbreaking photo of a house being demolished.
Briefly.co.za gathered @ZizmanZizipho accused the Tabankulu municipality of destroying 87 rural homes in Tabankulu on Wednesday.
"87 Houses were demolished in Tabankulu, Ndakeni location yesterday. Rural areas, where Tabankulu local municipality is claiming the land as theirs. This has to be declared as national disaster. Is this a new dawn? @CyrilRamaphosa @Julius_S_Malema @EFFSouthAfrica," he captioned the post.
Although his claims have not been verified, Mzansi immediately lashed out at the government for failing the people.
Twitter user @Jomak125 commented: "@CyrilRamaphosa will not finish his term. Black people should suffer continuously and beg for RDPs so they can vote for them."
Another tweep, @uAyanda_, added: "ANC Government doesn't care about black people."
Others slammed the people who voted for the ruling party, adding it was their own fault.
Social media user, @sthebeworldwide, wrote: "Serves all of you right. Akere y'all voted for ANC instead of revolutionary that will expropriate land. Karma."
There were those who backed the municipality's decision to demolish the homes, adding lawlessness can not be justified - no matter how heartbreaking the circumstances.
Mihlali Joja, who goes by the Twitter handle @Mihlalij1978, commented: "You cannot built where ever u wish. This is not a banana republic. This happened in Lanasia, Ngcobo, Qwaqwa, Alex etc. It's a norm for a municipality to demolish illegal buildings."
