Mmusi Maimane has not been getting too much love on social media streets lately. The DA leader was recently on the receiving end of a few harsh words after he posted about a waiter getting him free coffee.
Mmusi's well-meaning post was about how he asked a Mugg & Bean waiter for directions to the gym, and ended up being gifted with free coffee by the worker. He posted a picture with the man, captioned:
"I bumped into this gentleman working at Mugg & Bean. I asked him for directions to the gym, he helped, and later offered free coffee.I draw motivation from him, that regardless of his circumstances he's a generous South African working hard."
Mzansi social media users did not appreciate the post or Maimane's choice of words. Many felt that he was patronising towards the waiter while others felt that he should have at least tipped him.
Twitter user BizaBiza7 said:
"You should be buying him coffee bra.. Hayibo... What is this?"
While LionelAdendorf said:
"I dunno who (or what) is the motivator here. Is it: 1. A waiter, earning R4 000 per month, offering free coffee to a man earning R130 000 a month; or 2. A man who earns R130 000 per month accepting free coffee from a waiter earning R4 000 a month."
"Not every waiter feels that working at a restaurant is an unfortunate experience. When I worked at retail stores I felt really fortunate to have a job I was happy, These type of jobs are not to be taken lightly."
