Local record label, Kalawa Jazmee, is celebrating 25 successful years in the industry and plans to honour Kwaito legends in a number of ways. A theatre play, festival and documentary are in the works.
SowetanLIVE reports that members of the SA record label, Kalawa Jazmee, will be immortalised as they celebrate their 25th year of existence.
The label's success story is going to be told in various ways - a festival, a documentary, a theatre play and a remix compilation album.
These guys are going all-out!
Record label boss, DJ Oskido (Oscar Mdlongwa), along with his fellow co-founders, Spikiri (Mandla Mofokeng), Mjokes (Emmanuel Matsane), Mahoota (Zynne Sibika) and Dope (Bruce Sebitlo) launched the celebratory programme recently.
Briefly.co.za gathered that James Mgcobo, actor and director, confirmed that a team has been put together to tell their story on a stage.
"The idea is about celebrating a South African songbook that is Kalawa."
The musical is titled Corner to Corner, and auditions will start in February next year.
On the remix album, Universal Music's Louise Pillay said:
"Kalawa Jazmee is all about the music and the artist. The release we are going to have at the end of this year will continue the record label's soundtrack because it is a remix and remake package of all their mega hits."
Filmmaker Vincent Moloi is expected to work on the documentary.
