Mzansi model and actress, Phuti Khomo, has been accused of owing more than R250 000 in unpaid rent on a lease agreement she had signed for a friend.
While social media users may find her life to be perfect on her platforms, it is far from it. Phuti has been dragged to court after allegedly failing to pay rent for seven months.
According to Okmzansi, Phuti is involved in a nasty legal battle with businesswoman Marli Hoffman over a lease agreement.
Hoffman claims that Khomo owes R2100 00 for unpaid rent and R25 000 for the unpaid utilities bill. Hoffman also added another R60 000 for legal fees she has incurred.
But Phuti fired back at the accusations, saying she had signed the lease agreement on behalf of a friend.
“I did sign a lease agreement during June 2018 as a favour to a close friend but, regrettably, he could not keep up with the lease agreement payments and he eventually evacuated the leased premises after my lawyers engaged Marli’s lawyers in a brief discussion regarding the matter,” said Khomo.
Phuti admitted that she made a bad decision that has dragged her name to disrepute.
“I’m trying to solve it as best as I can through the law. Now I’m in this situation because of my friend. I’m also suing this friend and I’m trying to get that money. I’m not going to run away and our lawyers were corresponding,” added Phuti.
Hoffman said Phuti had been struggling to pay rent from the get-go and Phuti told The Sowetan that she is going to sue her former landlord.
“I’m now certain that I will sue Marli Hoffman for reputational damage caused. I don’t understand her end-game by taking me to the papers. Yes, a friends defaulted and there is no problem, with her coming after me through the law. But [why do it] in pubic like this, what is she trying to achieve? I think she has a problem with my lifestyle.”
