- The DA has said that they will not hand over power to the EFF in Tshwane
- This comes after the Red Berets called for fresh elections in the metro
- The EFF has also condemned the DA's leadership in the city
Abel Tau, the DA's regional leader in Tshwane, say that the party will not surrender the government of the City of Tshwane to the EFF.
This comes after the EFF called for an election in the metro.
Julius Malema has also said that the Red Berets want to claim the mayor's office in the city.
Tau, however, has dismissed the EFF's call for a fresh election.
"In democracy, you respect democracy and wait for the next election cycle," he said, according to IOL.
The EFF had previously sided with the DA in Tshwane. Now, however, they have complained about Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa's leadership, as well as what they see as the lack of service delivery in the metro.
They claim that this poor service delivery is behind some protests in the region, such as the current protests in Mamelodi regarding electricity.
Additionally, the party has said that it will no longer vote with the DA, Briefly.co.za has gathered.
While this indicates that the DA and EFF's relationship in Tshwane is all but at an end, the DA maintains that they will not be giving up power in the city.
Tau indicated that the party was not even talking to the EFF about a potential transition of power or a fresh election.
"The DA is not giving up Tshwane," he said simply.
