Lionel Messi and his Argentina teammates failed to reach the Copa América final after a 0-2 defeat to tournament host and old rivals Brazil on Tuesday, July 2, in Belo Horizonte courtesy of a goal in each half from Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino.

Jesus opened scores for Brazil in the 19th minute with Firmino providing a low cross for the Man City striker to side-foot home from close range.

Jesus left Firmino provided with the simplest of assist to finish off any comeback bid in the 71 minute.

Sergio Agüero hit the bar with a header in the first half while Messi’s effort 11 minutes into the second could only strike the post.

However, the final score at the end of the contest ensured Messi remains without a major title with Argentina.

Argentina have now failed to beat Brazil in a major competitive fixture since 2005.

On the other hand, Brazil have lost only twice in 42 games under coach Tite will now head to the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro for Sunday’s final against either Peru or reigning champions Chile.

Football buffs took to the social media to drop their reactions moments after the final whistle.

Brazil vs Argentina ended in a 2-0 wi for the host nation as they qualify into the Copa America finals.

Tite's side scored a goal in each half by Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino to continue their dominance over their South American rivals in the competition.

Jesus was left unmarked as Liverpool star Firmino whipped in a low cross for the Manchester City striker to side-foot home from close range. 1-0 to the Samba Boys.
