A viral video showing a woman following a 19-year-old girl into a church bathroom just to tell her she's too fat to wear denim shorts is being shared. In the video, the girl tries to tearfully explain that she loves herself and tells the woman to leave her alone.
Jenna took to social media to share her traumatic story:
"I'm honestly shocked and upset that this happened at church."
The Swansboro United Methodist Church in the United States said in a statement that it was "shocked and saddened by this act."
The teen was in the bathroom of her church when a woman body-shamed her. The woman followed her into the bathroom to make the hurtful statements.
In the footage, the woman could be heard saying:
"She's a chubby girl - she's got a dress on that's appropriate."
She was apparently referring to another church member with that statement. A tearful Jenna repeatedly told the woman to leave her alone, but that just made her double down on her criticism.
"Don't come back on that stage with those shorts. I'm warning you."
In follow-up posts, Jenna explained the situation further and added some photos of the outfit she was wearing.
"I'm absolutely astonished that someone can have this much hate in their heart."
She said she told her pastor, who told her that the woman would never be allowed to be part of any church committee or in a leadership role again.
The church released a statement on social media expressing their sadness and shock.
"The Church is supposed to be a place of safety, love and acceptance."
