Family of handcuffed granny claims Health MEC broke promises

The family of an eldely woman has accused the Gauteng Provincial Health Department of making empty promises. Martha Marais had appeared in a video clip which went viral, showcasing the gogo handcuffed to a bench at the Mamelodi Hospital.

Mzansi was enraged when a video clip depicting an elderly woman handcuffed to a bench in a Gauteng hospital went viral.

Health department officials got involved in the situation, but Marais' family claims they failed to bring perpetrators to book as promised.

Briefly.co.za reported that MEC Bandile Masuku had visited the family, vowing to fast-track the investigation into the incident.

The grandmother's family says it's now been more than a month, with no word from authorities on the matter.

Relatives say the elderly woman was deeply traumatised during the altercation, suffering from nightmares as a result.

They have accused the police of dragging their feet, failing to make any headway into what should have been a straight-forward investigation, reports eNCA.
