The Durban July weekend kicked off with a less-than-glamorous start as one of the most-anticipated pre-parties - the Moët & Chandon 'Spirit of 1743' hot air balloon experience - had to be cancelled thanks to strong wind conditions.
The Durban July weekend has arrived and Mzansi is excited to get things started. However, Mother Nature had other plans - windy conditions caused some upset.
One of the most anticipated events of the weekend - the Moët & Chandon 'Spirit of 1743' hot air balloon experience - was cancelled at the last minute because of wind.
The iconic hot air balloon experience would have made its first appearance in South Africa after its been around the world before, as reported on by SowetanLIVE.
The event was expected to be the biggest pre-party of the Durban July with guests toasting with the popular bubbly.
It would have taken place at Moses Mabhida Stadium between 2 pm and 5.30 pm.
Briefly.co.za gathered that the wind would have posed a danger to guests, according to a statement on the matter:
"It is with great sadness that we wish to inform you that our Moët & Chandon experience has been cancelled. The weather has not played in our favour and for your safety; we cannot fly ‘Spirit of 1743' hot air balloon in heavy winds."
