President Ramaphosa has defended the Chinese telecoms company, Huawei, at a conference where he spoke about SA's 4th Industrial Revolution. According to Ramaphosa, the US is jealous of Huawei and what they offer.
President Ramaphosa was speaking at a conference that focused on the 4th Industrial Revolution in South Africa when came out to defend Chinese telecoms company Huawei.
The 4th Industrial Revolution SA - Digital Economy Summit was held in the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand and the president addressed the 'standoff between China and the US', as reported on by News24.
President Ramaphosa says America is jealous of what Huawei has to offer.
"The United States has been unable to imagine a better future which goes beyond 4 plus 1G, where they have been unable to imagine what 5G can offer, and where now clearly they are jealous."
President Ramaphosa added:
"They are jealous that a Chinese company called Huawei has outstripped them. And because they have been outstripped they must now punish that one company and use it as a pawn in the fight that they have with China."
Briefly.co.za gathered that Ramaphosa has welcomed that the US will be relaxing some of the constraints imposed on Huawei.
"It is important that even as there is a trade war, or whatever, it should not spill over to disabling various countries in the world and various peoples in the world […] we want 5G and we know where we can get 5G."
