Star athlete, Thabo Viti, has been provided with a life-changing opportunity as the William Carey University in the USA has offered him a scholarship worth R195 972.

The Mississippi-based institution offered the bursary after Thabo completed an SAT test in May.

The former Hoërskool Marais Viljoen High School student has earned the opportunity as a result of his exploits in cross-country running.

However, the Alberton Record reported that Thabo is now faced with a tricky challenge as he tries to come up with the balance required to turn his dream into a reality.

Thabo and his family have saved enough to cover the cost of his flight ticket and visa, but still requires R59 700, which includes the international student tuition deposit.

Thabo revealed, “Sadly, we as a household cannot cover these costs since my mother is a single mother to two children on a domestic worker’s salary.”
