MultiChoice appoints Eskom Chair Mabuza to board of directors

It seems as if Jabu Mabuza has some extra time on his hands. The Eskom chair has been appointed as a non-executive director of MultiChoice. Nigeria's Dr Fatai Sanusi has also been appointed to the board of directors at the TV operator.

Eskom Chair Jabu Mabuza has been appointed as a non-executive director at MultiChoice, alongside Nigeria's Dr Fatai Sanusi.

Africa's largest pay-TV operator made the announcement recently, with MultiChoice facing competition from online TV behemoths, Netflix and Amazon.

MultiChoice hopes to secure both South African and African content, aiming to drive growth.

Mabuza is a busy man, also recently appointed as chair to the board of Sun International. The Eskom chair also serves as chair of Anheuser-Busch InBev — Africa, and the Casino Association of South Africa.

BusinessLIVE reports that Mabuza recently threw in the towel as chair of state-owned telecoms operator, Telkom.

Sanusi is a senior consultant for the UK National Health Service, with experience spanning governance and risk management.

With more than 15 million subscribers, MultiChoice announced that it would be cutting thousands of jobs after consumers changed their behaviour as a result of digital platforms.
