- American singer, R. Kelly, has been arrested on federal child pornography and obstruction of justice charges
- According to reports, the musician was arrested on Thursday on a 13-count indictment
- The singer is also facing 10 counts of felony criminal sexual abuse involving four alleged victims
It appears popular R&B singer, R. Kelly, is in much more trouble than before as he was recently arrested on federal child pornography and obstruction of justice charges.
According to ABC, the singer, whose real name is Robert Kelly, was arrested late on Thursday, July 11, on a 13-count indictment.
A statement by the U.S. attorney's office in Chicago reads as follows: "R. Kelly was arrested in Chicago on charges contained in a 13-count indictment returned today in the northern district of Illinois. The indictment includes charges of child pornography and obstruction of justice."
It is not clear yet what other charges are included in the indictment. Despite all of these, the singer maintains his innocence in the midst of the sexual misconduct charges.
This is the latest in the series of R. Kelly's legal issues.
A while ago, Briefly.co.za reported the singer saw 11 felony sexual crime charges filed against him, but his lawyer said the charges are old and a refiling from an existing case.
According to New York Times, aside from women who had claimed in the past that the singer had sexually abused them, two other women had on February 21 come forward to accuse the singer.
The women, 40-year-old Latresa Scaff and 39-year-old Rochelle Washington, claimed to have met R. Kelly after a concert in the mid-1990s when they were just teenagers.
The singer was acquitted of prior child pornography charges in 2008, five years after initially being arrested over a video that purportedly showed him with an underage girl.
