- Man is hailed hero after saving a life after gas tanker explosion
- Klaas de Vos pulled out the injured man from a burning car
- Both men survived the incident
Last week Wednesday was a normal working day for Klaas de Vos, until he found himself running into a burning blaze to save somebody's life.
A gas tanker had exploded outside his workplace and they had only minutes to leave the building before the tanker caused further massive explosions. Briefly.co.za previously reported that the gas tanker exploded in Worcester in the Western Cape in the early hours of Wednesday morning. According to police, an investigation has been opened but the details of the explosion are still unclear. A few surrounding buildings caught fire.
As Klaas was going around the building, he saw a man trying to exit a burning car. According to News24, the man was crawling and screaming:
"Help me, I am burning, someone please help me."
Without any hesitation or fear for his own life, Klaas ran to the burning wreck of the car and supported the stranger out of the flames.
He then rushed him to Worcester Hospital. Apparently, if it was not for Klaas' quick action, the stranger, named Bennie Kock's injuries would have left him much worse off, if not dead.
