On Monday afternoon, social media users called out Mayor Mzwandile Masina and Supra Mahumapelo for not supporting local businesses.

A social media user, who has been identified as Mmadikgosi Matshego, shared photos of the two men sporting designer clothing.

"Mayor Mzwandile Masina wearing Gucci tie, Supra Mahumapelo wearing Salvatore Ferragamo jacket. As I wait for the media to criticize them #StateCaptureInquiry #JacobZuma," Matshego wrote.

Briefly.co.za took a look at the price of the Gucci tie, which retails for about $220, which is more than R3000, on the haute couture fashion brand's online shop.

A Salvatore Ferragamo jacket's price can range between $2000 and $5600 on the brand's online store - that means the jackets can cost anywhere between R27 000 and R77 900.

The post sparked quite the reaction and Mzansi was left divided - some slammed the men for not supporting local businesses while others felt the politicians can use their money as they please.
