On Monday night, former Kaizer Chiefs player, Marc Batchelor, was shot in a hit-style murder, according to police.

Briefly.co.za reported the well-known former Kaizer Chiefs player died after attackers opened fire while on motorbikes.

News of his death broke South Africans' hearts. Taking to social media, Mzansi paid tribute to the fallen "national hero".

Twitter user,‏ @patt_tsotetsi, commented: "Until when are we going to loose our national heroes this way? Our Lucky Dubes, Senzo Meyiwas etc. We almost lost our @KhuliChana this way. Today, Mr Batchelor has left us because another human being decided to take his life. SA is really in crisis. #RIPMarkBatchelor."
