- The ANC's Jackson Mthembu has slammed the EFF for its treatment of Pravin Gordhan
- They say the Red Berets' animosity toward Gordhan is motivated by racism
- Mthembu accused the EFF of having a "deep-seated hatred" of Indian people
Jackson Mthembu came to Pravin Gordhan's defence in Parliament this week, claiming that the EFF's criticism of the Public Enterprises Minister was driven by racism.
This came after Malema accused Gordhan of "forcing an anti-black agenda on South Africa".
"It is because you are racist," Mthembu told the EFF. "That is why you have made Pravin a scapegoat."
The EFF has been highly critical of Gordhan in recent weeks, infamously disrupting his budget speech in Parliament. They have also called for Gordhan to step aside until his name is cleared.
Mthembu said that the EFF's "deep-seated hatred for Indian compatriots" went beyond Gordhan, Briefly.co.za has gathered.
Additionally, he argued that part of the EFF's animosity toward Gordhan may be because the Public Enterprises Minister "stepped on some corrupt toes of EFF cronies" while dealing with issues at various SOEs.
This is not the first time Malema has been accused of being prejudiced against Indian people. According to The South African, the EFF leader has previously said that "the majority of Indians hate Africans". He has also claimed that Indian South Africans have "aligned with whiteness".
Malema has also in the past referred to a so-called "Indian cabal", of which he says Gordhan is a member.
