A man has been arrested for attempting to sexually assault a woman in Joburg. He was caught in the act via the new CCTV cameras installed in the city.
In the footage, a woman is dragged, half-naked, down a Joburg street.She tries to fight off her attacker, but he overpowers her and she is pulled into a bush. His intention to sexually assault her is clear.
However, thanks to the CCTV, a reaction team arrived within minutes. Law enforcement was not only able to identify the attacker as a taxi driver, he was stopped before he could complete the crime. He has been arrested.
This an example of how the city of Johannesburg aims to prevent crime using CCTV. There have already been over 150 arrests to date.
Just two months ago, Briefly.co.za reported that the City of Joburg shared a couple of photos which showed officers lined up next to each other. According to the post, the cops formed part of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department's new CCTV Reaction Unit.
