- A woman has opened her home to help the elderly
- She takes care of them using her own resources
- The old age home currently needs funding to assist them
A young woman has shared the inspirational story of her heroic mother, who has dedicated her life to helping others. Ledia Motho is changing the lives of the elderly in her community by opening up her home to them. She has been taking care of the elders in Koffikraal village, North West province since 2010.
The name of her old age home is Thebe ya Tlhajwa. She first had the idea to open her home to the elderly when she encountered an old lady with dementia. She felt it in her heart to help her.
She started in her own home, because the Department of Social Development was too slow to respond to her request for help. And although she hasn't been funded yet, she is doing great thus far.
The 55-year-old's dream is to build a comfortable old age home for elderly people and be able to take care of them. There are currently five elders in the house and their social worker advised her to not take in any more.
She is currently working on getting a plot to build a new home. She needs nurses and social workers to work with her. Funding would also go a long way to providing for their needs and well-being.
