Convicted racist Penny Sparrow's passing has given some in South Africa a reason to celebrate, while others look on in disapproval.

Briefly.co.za reported that Sparrow had recently died following a battle with lung cancer, after spending her last years in constant fear. Sparrow had gained notoriety after referring to black beach-goers as 'illiterate monkeys'.

While it was unanimous that Sparrow's actions were vile and inhuman, some felt that celebrating the death of another says a lot about one's character.

On the other side of the argument, people felt that Sparrow had seen black people as sub-human and therefore wasn't deserving of any pity in the first place.

Perhaps the saddest part of the entire ordeal is that Penny Sparrow's legacy will forever be tainted by the ordeal and that she never managed to successfully repent for her actions.
