- Julius Malema has called DA Chief Whip John Steenhuisen a "stupid fool" on Twitter
- This came after Steenhuisen raised questions about the EFF's funding
- Steenhuisen suggested that the EFF's animosity toward Pravin Gordhan may be influenced by the donors who provide the party with money
EFF leader Julius Malema has slammed DA Chief Whip John Steenhuisen on Twitter.
Malema's comments came in response to an article which said that Steenhuisen was wondering who bought the EFF their "Moët & Chandon" - a jab at allegations that the EFF enjoys luxuries despite claiming to be pro-poor.
Malema replied to the article in a Tweet, calling Steenhuisen a "stupid fool".
This comes after Steenhuisen asked questions about where the EFF got their money after EFF MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi demanded that Cyril Ramaphosa reveal all the donors to his ANC election campaign, Briefly.co.za has gathered.
Steenhuisen agreed with Ndlozi, but said that all parties - including the EFF - should also disclose where their funding comes from. This follows a recent Daily Maverick article which found that some EFF members enjoyed expensive alcohol and other luxuries while staying in Camps Bay.
Steenhuisen also mentioned the allegations that businessman Adriano Mazzotti had given Julius Malema money to pay off his SARS bill, according to The Citizen.
"What interest would a businessperson have in paying for somebody's outstanding tax bill at SARS?" Steenhuisen said.
Steenhuisen went on to suggest that these donors served as "hidden hands" influencing certain parties' actions. For example, Steenhuisen suggested that the EFF's animosity toward figures like Pravin Gordhan stems from the funding they receive from sources like Mazzotti.
