- The man who drove his car into the ocean last week has been identified as a pensioner
- According to Johan Etzebeth, his friend promised to give him a new car
- Etzebeth added he could not resist the offer but it was a harder than he thought it would be
Last week, a video surfaced on social media which showed a man driving his car into the sea at a KwaZulu-Natal beach.
The man has now been identified as Johan Etzebeth - a retired veteran living in St Michael’s on Sea on the KwaZulu-Natal coast.
According to News24, Etzebeth said his friend dared him to drive his old Volkswagen Golf into the ocean.
The pensioner added his friend promised him he'll give Etzebeth a newer model Citi Golf. Etzebeth said his car was 23 years old and the new Citi Golf was just 13 years old.
The pensioner said he informed his wife about his plans 30 minutes prior to carrying it out and she could not believe it.
However, Etzebeth soon found out driving into the sea was a lot harder than he anticipated.
“It felt as if I was driving into a wall,” he said.
The unidentified friend who dared Eztebeth to drive into the sea said it was time for the car to go. He ended up selling to car for R500 to the towing company.
Last week, Briefly.co.za reported that a video went viral on social media which showed a man driving his green Volkswagen Golf into the ocean.
