On Friday, Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba and his council handed over several title deeds to deserving citizens.
Taking to social media, Mashaba posted several photos of himself with the visibly emotional recipients.
Social media users applauded Mashaba for handing over the title deeds and changing people's lives for the better.
However, although many applauded Mashaba, others suggested he has more pressing issues to resolve.
Social media user, @DavidRapz, commented: "Joburg is awaiting for you we need action against foreign nationals who lives in our city.Whether they pay rent or not, these people must leave the city nje so please respond quickly before SIKWATA!"
The tweep referred to the situation in Joburg CBD on Thursday where police had to flee a rioting crowd hurling stones, bricks and petrol bombs.
Briefly.co.za earlier reported that the cops were caught on video retreating as street vendors caused havoc in Jozi's streets.
According to the region's spokesperson, the retreat was a tactical decision to avoid a "bloodbath".
