Accountability Now has laid criminal charges against Busisiwe Mkhwebane. The entity announced that they will be taking the Public Protector up on charges of perjury and even defeating the ends of justice.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire. Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has left a long week of gruelling defeats behind, only to be slapped with criminal charges.
702 reports that Accountability Now has taken the advocate up on charges of perjury and defeating the ends of justice.
This comes after the findings placed against Mkhwebane by the Constitutional Court holding the Public Protector personally liable for the South African Reserve Bank's costs in the ABSA/Bankorp matter, Briefly.co.za reported.
The nation's top court had upheld the High Court's ruling that the Public Protector had acted in bad faith in the debacle, finding that the investigation had been flawed, with Mkhwebane putting forward misinformation.
Paul Hoffman, director of the entity, explained that all advocates are obliged, by their oath, to uphold the rule of law. This is something that cannot be achieved at the same time you commit perjury.
Hoffman is adamant that the only appropriate recourse for someone who lies under oath is removal from the roll of advocates.
