Following massive backlash following leaked e-mails from his CR17 presidential campaign, the presidency has insisted that Cyril Ramaphosa is innocent of any wrongdoing. Ramaphosa was not captured 'in advance', according to the office.
Cyril Ramaphosa wasn't captured 'in advance' by those who funded his 2017 presidential campaign, according to the presidency.
Ramaphosa's spokesperson Khusela Diko denied allegations put forward in the report, adamant that no favours were expected from those who had funded Cyril's campaign:
"No one has come to us at any point in time to say, 'I was promised this and the other for donating to the campaign'. It was people who really believed in the vision and the collective (we) were advancing, and it is on that basis that we're saying maybe we should have a conversation on whether campaign funding should be made public."
Diko insists that Ramaphosa was kept out of the loop as to who was financing him in order to avoid him feeling obligated to oblige such requests.
