The Democratic Alliance in the KwaZulu-Natal province has slammed the ANC for stalling on the fate of their eThekwini mayor. Zandile Gumede is enjoying a 'paid holiday' simply because the ANC can't decide what to do with her, according to the opposition party.
The Democratic Alliance says it is exploring every option to have disgraced eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede shown the door.
Briefly.co.za reported yesterday that the ANC's Provincial Executive Committee had extended her leave 'indefinitely' until they could come to an agreement on her situation.
Meanwhile, the DA has slammed the ruling party, adamant that Gumede should be removed from office:
“Gumede is on her third month of paid leave. She earns R115 000 per month. So basically, she’s been on a paid holiday because the ANC can’t make up their mind on what they want to do. We’re now told we have to wait another week."
EWN reports that the mayor had been placed on special leave after she was arrested on fraud and corruption charges in a R200 million tender scandal.
Gumede's supporters are adamant that the politician should remain in power, while numerous calls have demanded her removal.
