- Mahlangu also revealed that former coach, Steve Komphela, would have worked wonders with the current crop of players
Former Kaizer Chiefs star, Jabu Mahlangu, shared a strong prediction that the Glamour Boys are not equipped to win the league title this season.
The former dribbling wizard made his name at Chiefs and he feels that his former club should rather focus on cup competitions as this is their best chance of winning silverware.
Speaking at the launch of the MTN8 competition, Mahlangu felt saddened by Chiefs’ omission and feels that the club should focus on reclaiming a spot in the top 8 before a league triumph becomes a reality.
SowetanLIVE reported that the Supersport analyst suspects that something is still amiss at Chiefs.
Mahlangu said, “Realistically‚ I don’t think they are ready to win the league.”
He added, "They still have other cup competitions like Telkom Knockout and Nedbank Cup to play for and maybe get into the final.”
Briefly.co.za understands that the future of Khama Billiat remains a huge talking point and Mahlangu touched on this as well.
He said, "If they lose Billiat now‚ it will be a major setback for Chiefs because he is a key player for them.”
Mahlangu couldn’t pinpoint the issue within the club, but feels that there may be a disconnect between the players and coach Ernst Middendorp.
According to Mahlangu, former Chiefs coach, Steve Komphela, could well have been successful at the club if he was able to call upon the likes of Siphelele Ntshangase and Khama Billiat.
