- Photos have surfaced showing a VIP area at a funeral
- The area is apparently for 'chief mourners'
- Mzansi social media users were perplexed by the images
Photos are doing the rounds on social media showing an extravagant funeral service with a VIP area. The special area is apparently designated for VIP "chief mourners".
Twitter user Pholoho posted the pictures on social media with the caption:
"Chief Mourners (VIP) area for funerals looking nice. The area has personalised water, to mourn properly. Security tape, to keep the regular mourners out."
Mzansi social media users had mixed reactions about the post and about how funerals are being conducted of late. Twitter user KaliSpirit said:
"One funeral I was at they even had a jumping castle for the kids."
While Liyabona_booi said:
"VIP section at a funeral?? The gravesite?? When did we get here? I- I just..."
"Jonga. My funeral plan will definitely have this included."
"Black people how did we arrive here? I will listen on the radio."
Meanwhile, Briefly.co.za previously reported that the people of South Africa seem to have a tendency to spend more on the dead than on people who are alive. Funerals have now become a show-off event for many. A burial that should cost no more than R20 000 can end up costing up to R300 000.
