Hillcrest Primary School hosted a Domestic Helpers Day on Thursday in celebration of Women’s Day.
The school hosts the event to enable Grade 3 learners to honour the domestic workers in their lives.
The idea originated in 2015 when the school’s isiZulu specialist in the Foundation Phase, Nonhlanhla Ngubelanga, noticed the special relationship between the children and their helpers.

Since its inception, support for the initiative has been overwhelming from families who employ domestic helpers.
The 50 helpers who were invited to the school were treated for the day as they sat back and relaxed.

Following speeches from senior management, the learners performed and paid tribute to their helpers.
The special day was rounded off when each helper received a goodie bag and took photos with the children.
Hillcrest Primary shared details of the day via their Facebook page and it attracted a host of positive reactions.
