- Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp confirmed the availability of Khama Billiat and Itumeleng Khune for selection
- Khune was out of action for 6 months and Billiat suffered a knee injury during pre-season
- Chiefs next play against SuperSport United on August 24 due to their absence from the MTN8 competition
Kaizer Chiefs supporters have been sweating on the fitness on two talismanic figures and coach Ernst Middendorp confirmed good news.
The coach confirmed that both Khama Billiat and Itumeleng Khune would be available to face SuperSport United on August 24.
Chiefs will enjoy a two week break as they failed to qualify for this weekend’s MTN8 competition.
Attacking ace, Billiat, missed Chiefs’ first two games of the season after suffering a knee injury during pre-season.
TimesLIVE reported that Middendorp explained that Billiat’s injury woes were compounded while on duty for Zimbabwe in Afcon 2019.
Briefly.co.za understands the coach preferred not to play him during the Carling Black Label Cup, but he and Billiat felt they had to honour the decision of the fans to vote him in.
Middendorp said, “He had pain again in his knee during that game but the scans showed there was no major damage‚ just bruising.”
Goalkeeper Khune makes a welcome return following a six-month injury absence.
Khune has been nursed back into action as confirmed by the coach.
Middendorp said, “Khune has played 45 minutes in a friendly game‚ then another 60 minutes and this week we will play him for a full 90 minutes."
