Last week, the owner of an unclaimed winning lotto ticket finally came forward to collect his winnings.
The lucky winner of a R23 744 139 jackpot managed to collect his prize only two months before the ticket expired.
Now, he has opened up about waiting nearly a year to collect the prize money and how he felt seeing he had the winning lotto ticket.
The Pretoria man, who is in his 40s, discovered the R23 million winning lotto ticket amongst other tickets last week.
He said he could not believe his eyes, he checked and rechecked several times before calling his wife, who had been busy cooking in the kitchen.
The man revealed he was asked why he waited nearly a year to collect the R23 million, to which he replied that he had forgotten to look at the ticket because he is a frequent player.
The lucky winner has the media to thank for checking if he had the winning ticket. He said it was all over the news and he decided to check if he had it.
Meanwhile, Briefly.co.za reported earlier that a Mitchells Plain man won the lotto for a second time, this time he walked away with a whopping R61 million.
