The SABC will be looking into allegations of a boycott against singer Zahara by Umhlobo Wenene FM. This comes after her fans have been concerned that the radio station is deliberately snubbing her.
Songbird Zahara's fans will be happy to know that their complaints have not fallen on deaf ears.
The SABC will be investigating claims that Umhlobo Wenene FM is boycotting Zahara and her music.
She has barely returned after her tour in Canada and the US, when she was bombarded with concerns from her fans - they think it has something to do with her past relationship with the radio station's DJ Amaza.
However, she told TshisaLIVE that the so-called boycott has no links to him and that he is a good man who wouldn't make himself guilty of such actions.
The SABC shared a statement with TimesLIVE and says it took the claims from fans seriously.
“The SABC can confirm that it takes the allegations seriously and has instituted an investigation into the claims made, that Zahara is being snubbed by Umhlobo Wenene FM and the station has subsequently unscheduled her music on the station’s playlist."
Briefly.co.za gathers that the SABC added it is also serious about making sure local music is promoted.
Vuyo Mthembu, SABC spokesperson, said:
"It must be noted that the SABC remains committed to ensuring the promotion of local music, as it delivers on its mandate as a public service broadcaster."
