- A garbage collector has made a woman's day
- He gave her a cake for her 100th birthday
- The sweet video has gone viral on social media
Father of two Ben has been collecting Dorothy's garbage for more than eight years. Even though he works a ten-hour daily shift, he always makes sure he spends ten minutes chatting with Dorothy. Although her real name is Dorothy, everyone knows her as Mercy.
Dorothy has lived in the same road for 74 years. She was married to husband George from 1940 to 1990 when he passed away, she got her nickname of 'Mercy' from St Ambrose Catholic Church.
"I told her a couple of years ago that if she made it to 100 I would get her a cake," said Ben.
It seems Ben is a man of his word. In a heartwarming video, the man can be seen delivering a cake to the elderly woman as she turned 100.
Shouting her pet name 'Mercy, Mercy', he then passes three balloons tied to a wooden post on the way. Ben along with two colleagues sang 'Happy birthday' making the woman's day.
Now more than two million people have watched this wonderful act of kindness on social media online.
Meanwhile Briefly.co.za previously reported that Brett Nash had an extra special birthday this week as his friends at the local Spar at Retail Crossing helped him celebrate and presented him with an exciting surprise, leaving the young man overjoyed. His mother, Tammy Nash shared a heart-warming video to social media of the employees at their local Spar welcoming Brett into the store where he had a beautifully-wrapped present waiting for him and a delicious cake with Happy Birthday Brett written on it.
