Saving lives and the environment together - Meet firefighter David

The Help Up community group heaped praise on a Capetonian firefighter for making a difference in the environment.

Abdoul Bahati Dawood, or David as he is known, works as one of the few top specialised firefighters in the country.

Although David saves lives in his profession, what sets him apart is that he does remarkable voluntary work in his spare time as well.

Briefly.co.za understands that David often jogs from his home in Salt River to assist the other Help Up volunteers over weekends.

Help Up is a community initiative that trains and pays homeless people to clean up the environment.

The group welcomes pledges from the public for specific clean ups and their contact details can be found on their Facebook page.

The group took to Facebook to show their appreciation of the young firefighter and others joined in the act.

Diana Johnson said, “Well done David.”
Emily Jane Stockden added, “David’s the man.”
Sheila L Davids commented, “Hero no 1.”
