Deputy President for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Floyd Shivambu, spoke out recently about how pleased he was to work with Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of Parliament and Johannesburg Mayor, Herman Mashaba.

The two collaborated when it came to making sure that the City of Joburg’s cleaners were insourced, The Citizen reported.

Shivambu called the decision a “step in the right direction” and expressed his happiness over the way that the City of Johannesburg and the EFF had worked together on the issue.

According to Midrand Reporter, most of the cleaners who will be insourced are woman and so the decision is doubly significant as South Africa celebrates Women’s Month.

“This marks the start of the insourcing of a total of 1 879 cleaners, most of which are women who will benefit greatly from employee benefits like pension, medical aid, and increased take-home salary – ending a reliance on tenderpreneurs who have exploited workers for years,” Mashaba explained.

Briefly.co.za gathered that many South Africans were surprised by Shivambu’s nod to Mashaba for their work on the issue.

While the EFF and DA have a history of squabbling, it seems as though the two parties put aside their differences for this important occasion.
