DJ Shimza has admitted that his relationship with former mentor and record label boss, DJ Black Coffee, is shaky. They don't really talk much any more and Shimza said he has tried to reach out, to no avail.
During a recent interview with MacG for his podcast series, Podcast and Chill with MacG, DJ Shimza opened up about many things.
Briefly.co.za reported that he talked about his failed romance with Naomi K and he also talked about his 'shaky' relationship with DJ Black Coffee.
Black Coffee is Shimza's former record label boss and mentor, but they don't really talk any more. Shimza said he's not sure what went wrong.
Shimza was signed by Soulistic in 2013 but left 2 years later and there were reports of Black Coffee limiting Shimza's career growth, according to TimesLIVE.
Whether these claims are true or not, Shimza's career has been flourishing since he left.
However, Shimza did say that Black Coffee doesn't sign upcoming artists that are seen as a threat to him.
"He never does that. I think it is because of the relationship we have. It is a bit shaky. He doesn't book me for his stuff and they are trying to make it difficult for me to book him. He is a bit expensive, obviously. I appreciate that."
Shimza says he tried to reach out to Black Coffee but didn't have much success.
"At some point I was, like, if the relationship is not working, then that is cool. Let's meet and greet each other. I put in a lot of effort to try to reach out and find out what the problem is. When someone is like, 'Dude, f*ck off', I am like, 'Cool. I have done my part'. At least you know I tried to mend stuff."
Black Coffee has not yet reacted to Shimza's comments but he did give him a shout-out earlier.
Shimza donated shoes to school children and Black Coffee said he was proud of him.
