Brilliant young female scientist secures international scholarship

- A young female scientist, Mbali Mahlayeye, is on her way to the Netherlands

- Mahlayeye landed a Doctoral Scholarship to study at the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation

- The 29-year-old already holds an Honours in Geology and Master of Science in Geo-informatics

August is Women's Month and Mzansi's ladies have been celebrated by the entire county. On Tuesday, the South African government took to social media to honour a 29-year-old scientist.

Mbali Mahlayeye has already obtained an Honours in Geology and Master of Science in Geo-informatics at the University of Pretoria (UP).

Now, she is set to jet off to the Netherlands after landing a Doctoral Scholarship. According to the South African Government News' post on Facebook, Mahlayeye will travel to the Netherlands in September.

She will study towards her PhD at the prestigious University of Twente in Netherlands.

Mahlayeye works as a remote Sensing Scientist and she said that she is passionate about the field of study for her doctorate.

“The subject matter of my PhD is very close to my heart as it will focus on food security, monitoring agricultural lands and crops using earth observations,” Mahlayeye said.

Her story inspired South Africans who expressed how proud they are of her.
