The political climate in South Africa is never without any drama. The latest occurred when an ANC councillor handed Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba an EFF T- shirt and red beret ahead of the no confidence motion.

ANC Councillor Jolidee Matingo walked up to the Mayor of Johannesburg and handed him the EFF regalia, saying that its was because Mashaba successfully implemented EFF policies. His theatrics were applauded by the majority of the house. Mashaba also cracked a smile, as he took it with a good sense of humour.

Social media users, however, were less than impressed. ArnoSizani was curious about why a member of the ANC even had EFF party regalia. While MoLesetja said:

"When we say ANC people buy EFF regalia to do nonsense so to project and paint EFF as bad people. During elections clownish premier of Gauteng was parading ANC nyaopists as EFF members who have joined ANC. Here you all have it today."

"And this is supposed to embarrass Mashaba? Hayi ANC kids are clowns. #HandsOffMashaba"

Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba is facing a vote of no confidence today. The ANC wishes to remove him from office, as they claim that the metro has gone bankrupt and that corruption has flourished during his tenure. Briefly.co.za gathered that Mashaba's future may now depend on the EFF. If they vote with the ANC or abstain, the motion will be successful. Julius Malema has said previously that the EFF will no longer vote with the DA.
