On his day, Manqoba "Shakes" Ngwenya had the ability to decide the outcome of a match.

Unfortunately, his true potential was never fulfilled as many coaches struggled to get the best out of him.

Ngwenya’s rise to prominence began at Milpark Stadium as he played for Bidvest Wits.

Thanks to his heroics at the Clever Boys, the big guns came calling and Ngwenya was signed by Mamelodi Sundowns in 2003.

Although he spent seven years at the Brazilians, Ngwenya’s stock slowly began to fall and he moved on, representing clubs such as Thanda Royal Zulu and Mpumalanga Aces in the process.

Although Ngwenya never achieved a big European move, he ventured out of South Africa as he ended his career in Botswana.

Briefly.co.za recalls that he overcame initial work permit issues to eventually finish off at Township Rollers.
