On Thursday, Cristiano Ronaldo took to Twitter to join the millions of people across the world in calling for action to be taken to save the Amazon Rainforest.
The world's largest rainforest has been on fire for the past couple of weeks and the fires in the forests in Brazil increased by 83% compared with the same period last year, Sky News reported.
"The Amazon Rainforest produces more than 20% of the world's oxygen and it's been burning for the past three weeks. It's our responsibility to help to save our planet," Ronaldo captioned the post.
Briefly.co.za previously reported there have been some 40 000 fires this year alone, with 10 000 in the last handful of weeks. The smoke from the blaze was so dense that it could be seen from 3 000 kilometres away.
Ronaldo was not the only famous personality to rally behind #SaveTheAmazon. Actress Viola Davis shared an emotional video of the heartbreaking fires.
"This gave me chill bumps!!! Never be silent!! Brazil, you have my support!" she wrote.
