SABC anchor and sports analyst David Kekana has passed away.
Tributes have flowed in for Kekena, who reportedly died at Milpark Hospital in Joburg on Sunday.
This comes after Kekana was hospitalised several weeks ago.
SABC confirmed Kekana's passing on Monday afternoon, Briefly.co.za has gathered. According to SABC News, Kekana died after battling a long illness. He had worked at the public broadcaster for 18 years and was still employed by SABC at the time of his death.
"[Kekana] was known and loved for his friendly attitude and quick smile," the SABC wrote in a public statement.
SABC presenter Xoli Zondo was among those who paid their respects to Kekana. Sports minister Nathi Mthethwa also weighed in, saying that Kekana's death was a loss to South African sport.
According to the Daily Sun, many South Africans have paid their tributes to Kekana, both online and off, and have offered their condolences to his family.
