- Former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe has heaped praise on attacking ace Percy Tau
- Tau is in the midst of a second loan spell in Belgium as he is ineligible to play for his club, Brighton & Hove Albion
- Bafana Bafana’s low FIFA ranking presents an added challenge for South African players when trying to gain a work permit to play in the English Premier League
Former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe took aim at the national team when discussing the ability of star attacker Percy Tau.
Radebe lauded Tau for his ability to adapt and feels the attacker can reach even greater heights.
The former Leeds United skipper has been impressed with Tau’s performances for Club Brugge in the Belgian league.
Last season, Tau initially earned his stripes in Belgium while playing in the second division for Saint Gilloise.
Briefly.co.za gathered that his excellent displays there have resulted in him making the step up.
However, Tau’s actual club is Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League (EPL) as he has merely been loaned to the two Belgian sides.
Daily Sun reported that Radebe feels that a man of Tau’s ability should’ve been playing in the EPL from the get-go.
Radebe said, “It’s a bit unfortunate that Percy Tau is at the stage where he is maturing and but he can’t play for his club.”
Radebe went on to explain that Bafana’s lowly FIFA ranking means that South African players need to overcome additional hurdles to acquire a work permit in England.
“It’s a little bit disappointing because this obviously curtails a lot of talent that would be benefitting in terms of Bafana competing in the continent and the world,” said Radebe.
