Africa’s number 1 female DJ is over the moon. DJ Zinhle started the week with incredible news that she has been nominated for the 6th annual All African Music Awards (AFRIMAs) and she will be competing with some of the continent’s most talented DJs.

DJ Zinhle is known as one of the most-talented artists of her generation. She was named best female DJ in Africa nine months ago and has now been nominated at the AFRIMAs.

While most fans assumed DJ Zinhle would secure a nomination in any of the female-led categories, it was refreshing and exciting to discover that DJ Zinhle is among the 9 DJs who will be vying for the African DJ of the Year title.

When the announcement was made on social media on Monday morning, Zinhle appeared to be surprised and extremely thrilled.

This year’s ceremony will take place in November, giving nominees sufficient time - two and a half months - to campaign for votes before competing with each other on the 20th and 23rd November.

According to ZAebs, DJing is still one of the areas of entertainment in which women are under-represented. One follower summed it up best by congratulating DJ Zinhle on her nod.

He wrote: “So proud of you Zinhle, in such a male-dominated industry you have shattered the glass ceiling and redefined the stereotype that women also can do this. You are an inspiration. Congratulations.”
