News anchor under fire for referring to black co-host as a gorilla

Alex Housden did the unthinkable when a video of an infant gorilla popped up on screen during a live broadcast on her news channel.

She turned to her black co-host, Jason Hackett, and commented that the primate 'kind-of looks like you'.

The US-based anchor has since given her colleague a tearful apology after her comment riled viewers, reports The Citizen.

While Hackett accepted her apology, he didn't deny that the comment had 'cut deep', saying that:

“I want this to be a teachable moment and that lesson here is that words, words matter. There’s no doubt about that.”

Naturally, many felt that the anchor had crossed a definitive line with her comment and should be removed from her position following the incident, reports LADbible. reported earlier that a top SARS employee had gotten herself into hot water after using a gorilla toy to refer to her black colleagues.
