- A US anchor has been left apologising after referring to her colleague as a 'gorilla'.
- The comment had been made during a live broadcast on Oklahoma's ABC affiliate station, KOCO-TV, last week
- Alex Housden had received an understandable amount of backlash from the public, with some calling for her removal
Alex Housden did the unthinkable when a video of an infant gorilla popped up on screen during a live broadcast on her news channel.
She turned to her black co-host, Jason Hackett, and commented that the primate 'kind-of looks like you'.
The US-based anchor has since given her colleague a tearful apology after her comment riled viewers, reports The Citizen.
While Hackett accepted her apology, he didn't deny that the comment had 'cut deep', saying that:
“I want this to be a teachable moment and that lesson here is that words, words matter. There’s no doubt about that.”
Naturally, many felt that the anchor had crossed a definitive line with her comment and should be removed from her position following the incident, reports LADbible.
Briefly.co.za reported earlier that a top SARS employee had gotten herself into hot water after using a gorilla toy to refer to her black colleagues.
Take a look at a few of their responses below:
