- He appeared in the Midrand Magistrate's Court, where the ruling was presented on Tuesday
- Mafokate was accused of assault by his former girlfriend, Busisiwe 'Cici' Thwala, after an alleged altercation turned violent in 2017
South African musician, Arthur Mafokate, has been acquitted of all assault charges brought against him by his former girlfriend, Busisiwe “Cici” Thwala, at the Midrand Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Arthur’s lawyer, Daniel Nakeng, confirmed the news to TshisaLive yesterday. “We can confirm that our client, Arthur Mafokate, was yesterday acquitted of the assault charges against him at the Midrand Magistrate's Court.”
Nakeng added that Arthur had always maintained his innocence in the matter and had mixed feelings about the verdict.
“He has mixed feelings as a lot of time and dignity has been taken away from him and it would take many years to rebuild. As a law firm that believes in fairness in the judicial system, we are glad that the matter has been put to rest and we hope both parties can find peace going forward,” said Nakeng.
Mafokate and Thwala had been in a lengthy legal battle that has lasted for more than a year, with several delays.
According to TshisaLive, Thwala laid charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm against Mafokate in 2017 after an altercation between them allegedly turned violent.
Thwala had claimed she was admitted to hospital and had to undergo hip surgery following the incident.
But Mafokate had maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to the charges since Thwala laid the charges against him.
Thwala was later found not guilty on counter-assault charges laid against her by Mafokate.
Unfortunately, both Thwala and Mafokate have since not commented on the ruling.
However, Mafokate did share an image on Instagram mentioning depression. Take a look at his post below:
About two weeks ago, Briefly.co.za reported that Arthur Mafokate is most well-known for being a veteran of SA Kwaito music, but his dedication as a father has definitely taken centre stage in his later years.
Having been through a lot of struggles in his time, Arthur strives to give his four children the best and pushes them to be the best that they can be. Briefly.co.za knows how insanely-proud Arthur is of his eldest daughter, Owami.
Even though Arthur has made musical history, his children are still his greatest achievement.
