Robber in cash-in-transit heist identified as an MMA fighter

One of the robbers who was shot dead by security guards at the Bridge City Shopping Mall in KwaMashu on Monday has been identified as a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter.

The man has been identified as fighter Sboh Ceeh Khuboni.

The shoot-out began after the robbers accosted the cash-in-transit guards.

The guards were collecting cash from a shop when seven men attempted to rob them.

Police have confirmed that two of the robbers were shot dead, has gathered. According to IOL, the police also recovered a rifle and a hand-gun from the scene.

One of the guards has since been hospitalised after sustaining several gunshot wounds.

Since then, a video has surfaced on social media, which was purportedly filmed during the incident. In the clip, one of the guards allegedly kicks what appears to be the lifeless body of one of the robbers before shooting the man once more in his head.

News24 has reported that police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo says the security guard will have to explain why he shot someone who already appeared to be incapacitated.

"We view the video seriously," Naidoo said. "I don't know who these guys are, but rest assured, it will be investigated."
