From homeless to filling out theatres, actor inspires with his story

Michael Mazibuko is a South African actor with an amazing life story that is bound to inspire many across the world.

When he was a teenage, Michael was kicked out of home by his father, who disagreed with Michael’s decision to leave school.

According to Beautiful News South Africa, Michael spent a long time shivering on the streets, feeling invisible.

Thanks to a theatre troupe called Johannesburg Awakening Minds (JAM), Michael was able to get off the streets and find his passion.

“When I had no place to go, the theatre welcomed me with open curtains,” Michael explained.

JAM was founded by award-winning actress, Dorothy Ann Gould, who uses the platform to uplift, upskill and inspire homeless persons.

“We all have stories to tell … Having this place allows us to feel seen, heard, and provides a fresh start,” Michael said.

While JAM started out as a theatre troupe, the group has now branched out to the silver screen.

Many of those who have found a voice through JAM have been able to act on various TV shows and short films as extras, including hit SA soape, Generations, discovered.
