Miss SA, Zozibini Tunzi, is living the dream. She’s currently in the Big Apple, where is set to strut the catwalk in distinctive Xhosa designs at New York Fashion Week from 6 September to 14 September.
Briefly.co.za learnt that Zozibini will also model pieces from Belgian-born Mozambican designer, Eliana Morargy’s iconic collection, which pays homage to West Africa’s Yorùbá women.
The beauty queen will be dressed in a Mpondoland inspired gown, designed by Laduma Ngxokolo, whose fashion styles reigns from the traditions of Eastern Cape, a province were both designer and model call home. Both love the colours and textures that form part of the Xhosa tradition.
A few weeks ago, Briefly.co.za reported that Zozibini's choice to embrace her natural hair has encouraged women across the nation to love themselves for who they are, just the way they are.
“I did not realise when I decided to go with my own hair for the Miss SA competition, that it would have such far-reaching implications and consequences.”
According to TshisaLive, Zozibini expressed that she felt like she was becoming an international poster girl for natural hairstyles for African women and even though it’s not what she set out to do, she was extremely proud.
“If women are starting to realise that if they choose to, they can give up on wigs and weaves and still be beautiful.”
While in the US, Zozibini will be interviewed by America’s biggest African-American Women’s magazine, Essence, and will chat about why she prefers rocking the short natural hair look.
Zozibini will also get to hang out with SA’s famous comedian, Trevor Noah.
Four days ago, Briefly.co.za also reported that Zozibini Tunzi, South Africa’s freshly-crowned Miss SA 2019, is still adjusting to the fact that her fairytale dream is now a reality. Becoming Miss SA comes with a lot of responsibility. Zozibini took the crown just a couple of weeks back and her entire life has changed.
Briefly.co.za knows what an inspirational woman our new Miss SA is. Zozibini did not only win a sparkly crown and one million rand, she won the opportunity to make a difference.
Zozibini has been recognised for her authenticity and how she manages to embrace her all-natural beauty, inspiring young women everywhere to do the same.
